Who was the ballet dancer whose costume caught fire while she was dancing?

That was Emma Livry, from the Paris Opera. Her costume caught fire fro the footlights (gaslights) on the stage during a dress rehearsal. The risk of fire was known, and she could have worn a tutu made of material that was not so flammable, but it was also not as delicate and did not move well with the dance. It took her 8 months to die. She was famous for the "Le Papillon" Ballet. That means Butterfly in French. The Ballet was choreographed for her by Maria Taglioni, the first Ballet dancer to dance on pointe without aid, such as the wires used in the first Romantic Ballet, "Robert le Diablo." Emma was one of Miss Taglioni's protegees.

Are you talking about the ballet dancer named Emma Livry? I think they used to have open candles in ballet theatres which caused a lot of fires. She died after her costume caught fire =[
Marie Taglioni. Her costume was set alight by a gas lamp used for stage lighting. Also, Emma Livry was caught on fire.
