Just relax and keep your mouth shut unless the teacher talks to you first. Ballet is one of the most serious and strict forms of dance. Keep your toes turned out, butt pulled in, stand straight with your shoulders back but relaxed, and tuck your tummy in. Also, when doing exercises at the barre, try not to put your weight on it if you can help it. Those long boring exercises are going to strengthen your muscles and help you find your center of balance. No matter how hard it is, don't take the easy way out of things or you'll have wasted your time. Ballet can be tough. Also, NEVER starve yourself or severely restrict your diet to be a ballerina, no matter what anyone says. That will do nothing but hurt you for the rest of your life. Best wishes from an ex dancer.

that's how i was but i think i was 14 at the time and i was thrown into intermediate when i was in a class with 17 year olds who had been doing ballet since they could walk. so basically i just stayed quiet and asked alot of questions and watched what the better dancers were doing and copied it. as for the terminology, you can just study that on your own.
Its o.k. i feel the same way. i went fro basic, easy ballet to pre-pointe. But, sometimes u have 2 go with the flow. Practice is the main key. BUT if u find it 2 challenging ask if there is another class 4 u 2 take
Pay attention and don't be afraid to ask questions. You can always speak with your instructor after class if you're feeling uncertain about anything. Ask if there is anything in particular you need to work on while not in class.

Also, if you receive a lot of corrections, don't feel like you're being picked on .. it's better to learn the moves the correct way instead of getting into bad habits then trying to unlearn them.

Otherwise, relax and enjoy yourself. Ballet involves a lot of repetition which you will soon be remembering from week to week. As your muscles strengthen, things will become "easier" but as with all dance there is always a next level to strive for - you can do it! :)
If you're lucky then the other three girls in your class will try and help you along. Even if they don't, the teacher definitely will.

You could request private lessons if you're really having trouble and if you have the time to devote to that.

Other than that, keep your mouth shut unless the teacher asks you something or tells you to demonstrate something [chances are they want to correct you to make you better; either that or you did it really well, and there's the cheap rewards]. As for terminology, using Google to search for sites [I can't think of any off the top of my head but they DO exist] that will show pictures or clips of every specific pose or move.
I suggest you buy a book called the ballet book. Darcy Bussel, A famous dancer, made that book. It's from the Royal Ballet School of dance. Here are some things to remember:

Supply Box: Extra Elastic, Ribbon, small sewing kit, shoes, leotards, stockings, ext.

Footwear: Go to a store that speacializez in dance shoes. Your shoes have to be fitted properly. You don't want to buy your shoes at Target or Payless. Those are cheap brands and get worn out easily. Shoes should not be too loose or too tight.

Alternative outfits: A tutu may be suitable for special occasions. Tutus you see proffessional dancers wearing on stage are specially sewn and fitted. You can buy a ready made one from a specialty shop for a recital.

Clothes: Simple leotard, ballet shoes, a skirt.
