Russia i always thought.
I think it is from Russia. I read a book called 'Dancing Star' when I was a little girl. It was about Anna Pavlova and she was Russian.
The Ballet we know today was "invented" by Louis XIV of France, the Sun King.
Italy.

I searched "ballet" in Wikipedia.
france. king louie of france invented it but i dont remember the year. its deffiantly not russia, why do you think all the terms are in french?
italy, but then it caught on in Russia very quickly
Italy!!

Ballet originated as court dances (mainly Pas de Bourrees and balances/waltzes) in Italy, but twas mastered in France where they futhur developed steps and gave them names (which is why all the ballet terms are French). The dances were for royalty, and only for men believe it or not lol

alot of people just THINK it came from France because thats where the first dance academy was set up called L'Academie Royale de Danse.
France!!! I take ballet lessons all the movements are french!! e.g jete pete (spelt as prounced although it is the incorect spelling)
