Help with ballet dancing. I am desperate!?

My Grade 8 Exam is coming soon and I am so nervous. It is bcoz I feel that I am not at the point where I can dance perfectly. I really want to perform well for this last grade. These are questions I would love to ask:

How should my hair be tied? I have shoulder length hair?

Should I put on make up?

I am bespectacled. Should I put on my spectacle. I dont have contacts and I definitely cant afford to buy a pair. My vision is really blur without my specs but I would look horrible with specs while dancing. Dont u think?

What should I do at this last minute to strengthen my inner muscles and improve my performance?

What should I consume to give me more stamina?

What do examiners look for in our dancing?

What can I do to get goot marks?

Hmmh.....Pls help me

Help with ballet dancing. I am desperate!?performing arts

How should my hair be tied?definetly try something different like a french twist or a side-parted low bun

Should I put on make up?i don't think you would need it for an exam, maybe for an audition but i would hold off for the exam

I am bespectacled. Should I put on my spectacle? if you KNOW the dance reallyyyyy well like the back of your hand i would say don't wear your glasses

What should I do at this last minute to strengthen my inner muscles and improve my performance?stretch, stretch,STRETCH! when you're sitting in front of the tv or having free time in dance classes, stretch all of your muscles like straddle, split things like that.

What should I consume to give me more stamina?you can't really eat anything to get stamina, try running everyday if you have time it helps ALOT

What do examiners look for in our dancing?poise, how well you dance your type of dance, confidendce

What can I do to get goot marks?smile at the judges every once in awhile, not a cheesy smile but just a little smile, and make sure you seem confident! if you blank out in the middle, don't show it in your face.just make something up as you go,they don't know it!

hope this helps %26amp; good luck!!

Help with ballet dancing. I am desperate!?binoculars opera theater

Hair should be completely up, a bun would be best, or a french twist if you can secure it neatly. Totally off the neck, even if its a low bun.

You may want to wear soem light make-up. You know how political and catty dance can be. But nothing heavy if youre at a strict school. Mascara bluch and lip gloss, thats fine. If you're blind as a bat, wear the glasses, If you can get away without them, give it a shot. Don't do a whole lot of practicing the night before and making your muscles sore, light stretching.

Dry carbs are quick bruning sources of energy, think nuts, light breads, steamed veggies. Confidence is everything, flaunt it, even if you dont know what you got. Think about what makes you a great dancer and play up those points

Why do ballet dancers always dance on their toes?

Wouldn't it be easier to just hire taller dancers?

How do ballet dancers go on there tippy tippy toes?opera score opera theater

there is wood in the tips of their shoes to train them.
Its Soo Amazing aint it lool... =] I Cant wait to go on pointe.. =]
pointe shoes have a small amount of wood in the tip but they must also have their toes strapped up with special tape to keep them all together
They have special shoes as you can see. The tip of the shoe has "cheese cloth" in it. Maybe you could go on youtube and see "how a pointe shoe is made" Ballet dancers who go en pointe have to have some ballet training. So if you wanna do this then sign up for ballet!:)
The point shoe has a hard box that supports their toes and the shoes is very tight. The sole of the shoe is also relatively hard to support the foot. The ribbons and the elastics also support their ankles. It takes years of training and a lot of strength.
They are wearing pointe shoes. There is a block of wood in the bottom of the shoe that helps them to stand up like that.
special shoes with wooden blocks in the toes...and lots and lots of practice!

Can guys wear ballet flats?

I have some super cute blk pants and I think these would be cute

You can techincally wear whatever you want!

If we're talking style-wise, though, it's not really fashionable. Flat sneakers like Converses or something like that, but ballet flats are really for girls.

Only if you want to look like a fool.
uuum......no
If they are dancing ballet
Honestly, guys can't wear ballet flats.
No, no, no, no, no I repeat NO! That would just look wrong.
no please
erm..nope..
You must be gay since you are referring to your pants as super cute...

If your gay, it's ok. If you are straight, you need to come out of the closet.
eeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwww noooooooooooooo waaaaaaaaaaaayy that would be sooooo disturbing! Don't even think about it.
mate, u can do whatever u wnt!!!
If that's what you want to wear, though they are womens shoes .. although women wear guys shoes for instance, air forces! So i mean if you think it would look cute wear them! Just maybe try a more masculan type so you don't get odd stares(:
i really cant imagine a guy wearing that. maybe you could give them to a friend who has the same size?
Ummm...NOOOOOO. but Vans slip ons are for both guys and girls and they are almost like flats.
I find nothing wrong with men wering womens clothing and vise-versa.

So yeah go ahead it'll look nice.

My veryy first ballet class!!!?

im 12 ,i have 3 other girls in my class, and i skiped 1 level that they did ( basic) so i went straight to intermediat.how should i act???????wut should i do thees girls noe the things i dont!!

My veryy first ballet class!!!?events

Just relax and keep your mouth shut unless the teacher talks to you first. Ballet is one of the most serious and strict forms of dance. Keep your toes turned out, butt pulled in, stand straight with your shoulders back but relaxed, and tuck your tummy in. Also, when doing exercises at the barre, try not to put your weight on it if you can help it. Those long boring exercises are going to strengthen your muscles and help you find your center of balance. No matter how hard it is, don't take the easy way out of things or you'll have wasted your time. Ballet can be tough. Also, NEVER starve yourself or severely restrict your diet to be a ballerina, no matter what anyone says. That will do nothing but hurt you for the rest of your life. Best wishes from an ex dancer.

My veryy first ballet class!!!?home theatre opera theater

that's how i was but i think i was 14 at the time and i was thrown into intermediate when i was in a class with 17 year olds who had been doing ballet since they could walk. so basically i just stayed quiet and asked alot of questions and watched what the better dancers were doing and copied it. as for the terminology, you can just study that on your own.
Its o.k. i feel the same way. i went fro basic, easy ballet to pre-pointe. But, sometimes u have 2 go with the flow. Practice is the main key. BUT if u find it 2 challenging ask if there is another class 4 u 2 take
Pay attention and don't be afraid to ask questions. You can always speak with your instructor after class if you're feeling uncertain about anything. Ask if there is anything in particular you need to work on while not in class.

Also, if you receive a lot of corrections, don't feel like you're being picked on .. it's better to learn the moves the correct way instead of getting into bad habits then trying to unlearn them.

Otherwise, relax and enjoy yourself. Ballet involves a lot of repetition which you will soon be remembering from week to week. As your muscles strengthen, things will become "easier" but as with all dance there is always a next level to strive for - you can do it! :)
If you're lucky then the other three girls in your class will try and help you along. Even if they don't, the teacher definitely will.

You could request private lessons if you're really having trouble and if you have the time to devote to that.

Other than that, keep your mouth shut unless the teacher asks you something or tells you to demonstrate something [chances are they want to correct you to make you better; either that or you did it really well, and there's the cheap rewards]. As for terminology, using Google to search for sites [I can't think of any off the top of my head but they DO exist] that will show pictures or clips of every specific pose or move.
I suggest you buy a book called the ballet book. Darcy Bussel, A famous dancer, made that book. It's from the Royal Ballet School of dance. Here are some things to remember:

Supply Box: Extra Elastic, Ribbon, small sewing kit, shoes, leotards, stockings, ext.

Footwear: Go to a store that speacializez in dance shoes. Your shoes have to be fitted properly. You don't want to buy your shoes at Target or Payless. Those are cheap brands and get worn out easily. Shoes should not be too loose or too tight.

Alternative outfits: A tutu may be suitable for special occasions. Tutus you see proffessional dancers wearing on stage are specially sewn and fitted. You can buy a ready made one from a specialty shop for a recital.

Clothes: Simple leotard, ballet shoes, a skirt.

Should I begin ballet?

I have several issues regarding the subject:

I'm a young teenager. (13-15 age group) and haven't taken dancing classes, only gymnastics

I'm 5'2" and 108 pounds(but my arms and legs are long, does that help with the sport at all?)

I'm also wondering if it would help with performance in theatre and such

I have always wanted to take dance, but if I start now, would I be too old or out of practice to keep up?

Should I begin ballet?say yes

It's never too late to start! Long limbs aren't a requirement for ballet, and as I've stated in other Dancing Answers, ballet can benefit individuals of any shape and size. I started ballet at 11 and was en pointe WAY too early with poor instruction. I busted my ankle and gave it up for 7 years because someone told me I'd never dance again. Finally, in college I took a few courses for fun, and I rediscovered my passion. 2 years later, I'm 21 and en pointe! I'm also 5'3 and around 137# with really strong and high arches, and my ankle has fully healed, though it's not QUITE as flexible as it used to be.

So, unless at 19 I was too young to start up again from the very beginning, you're right on track. You may not become a prima ballerina, but the friends you'll make and the skills you'll develop will remain with you for a lifetime.

I tried gymnastics in middle school after my ankle healed, and it actually lead me to cheerleading. I played volleyball and tennis in high school, so I know where you're coming from as far as being concerned about your build. Ballet thinned out my leg and arm muscles a lot, but I'm still just as strong and flexible as I was beforehand, if not, even more so!

Whatever you choose, good luck! I wish you the best!!!

Should I begin ballet?palace theatre opera theater

studying ballet is like purchasing health insurance. in a good ballet class, you'll experience how the body works -- the physics of movement, posture, clarity of line. it will help you be aware of shape and gesture, and how they affect what you express with your physicality in theatre and other forms of the performing arts. starting ballet as a teenager can be awkward, 'cause it can be hard to find a beginner teenage ballet class, but they are out there. begginer classes for adults are more common and most instructors don't mind making an exception for a younger student. if there are no teen/adult beginner classes, maybe some private lessons would be possible. OR you can just decide to bite the bullet and start with the 10 year olds!!! Hey, you're there for yourself, right?
I'm in the young teen range too and I started ballet when i was 11 and i thought that i staarted late but some of my friends are starting this year. just don't take a little girls beginners class you'll be just fine. It does help with theater and a lot of other things too! I would reccomend it even if you want to do other types of dance too. I take two ballet classes and 2 jazz, and i like them both, although, dancing isn't for every one! (and I am not empliyng that you will be a bad dancer or anything! so go for it!)
no youre definitely not too old! i started when i was 13 or 14 and there was actually a teen ballet class for beginers that were a little older. the next year when i went into the regular ballet classes i was about 3 or 4 years older than the rest of the girls but it was still fun.

Academia de Ballet de Lomas Verdes

Is there a ballet that can be preformed by all girl dancers?

you could do larg segments of some. like la sylphide, the willies from giselle, or dracula.

Name of a ballet move similar to a fouette?

You turn with one leg out and straight at 90 degrees. I know it sounds like 'alsacone' but I don't know the proper spelling or term for it.

It is called an A La Seconde turn, sometimes know as a Forte (Fortay). Similar to a Fouette, only the leg en l'air does not bend in with the foot at the knee. In A La Seconde the leg stays straight!

That's what I know it as, too- alesacone.
an arabesque turn
A la seconde turns (mainly done by men)
i call it a turn in second lol

Ppl who do ballet...?

what are those turns where you like start out with a pirouette and then you keep your leg straight and perpendicular to your body and you just keep going round and round and round. haha

yea they look so cool. i just want to know what they are called. Are they hard to do?

Ppl who do ballet...?headache

Sounds like a fuete. (not sure of the spelling there, haha.) Do you mean the turn where you start with a pirouette and then one leg whips out and around and back in? That's a fuete, and they're pretty hard. =) Hope that helped!

Ppl who do ballet...?paramount theater opera theaterActually, where they keep the leg out is called a 'Tor' and yes they are very difficult. Probably harder than a fuete which is what Dancingal described. Report It

I think they're called ronde de jambe (not sure of spelling). A few in a row aren't hard, but the perfect positioning IS hard.
Well our studio calls them a la seconde fuetes (not sure about sp.) A la seconde because thats where your non-supporting leg is. In a posse fuete, you start out with a pirouette then your non-supporting leg goes from posse while your supporting leg is in releve, then devant/plie, a la seconde/plie then back to posse/releve

this one is posse fuete

A'la second turns? Or fouettes en tournout? Arabesque turns?

All of those are really hard to do...
furetuetes er somthing

i've never tried it

for fear of hurting myself
Sounds like a fouette to me. Not hard, you just have to keep your balance and spot. And keep your weight over the balls of your feet.
It is either a fouette or an a la seconde turn.

Fouette:http://youtube.com/watch?v=mpf8IbZabKY

A la Seconde:http://youtube.com/watch?v=OE_LpJj4hm4

The a la seconde video is not a professional video like the first one...But it is the only decent video I could find. I find that fouettes are hard. Especially on pointe. But if you keep your center muscles in and tight and you spot you should be able to get it. Good Luck!
im pretty sure its a fuete (nevermind my spelling). If you really dont know, just ask your ballet teacher...if you do ballet that is.
that would be a fuette.

and yeah, they take some practice.

What is a "ballet company"?

I need a clear and simple definition of this term.

What is a "ballet company"?plays

A ballet company is a group of ballet-dancers, who train together an it's often very hard to get into because there are so many great ballet dancers in these days, which off course gives an big competition.

A ballet company usually consists of:

Artistic director

Ballet mistress or Ballet master

Choreographer

Prima ballerinas

Ballerinas

Principal dancers

Soloists

Corps de ballet

Regisseur

Character dancers

R茅p茅titeur or Dance notator

Music director

Orchestra

Executive director

A ballet company is basically a group of classically trained dancers that put on shows and train together. American Ballet Theatre, New York City Ballet are both examples of ballet companies. They are very prestigious and kinda hard to get into now that there are soo many good dancers
where people scream all the time
A "ballet company" is a a group of ballet dancers.

How long will ballet flats be around?

How long do you think this trend will stay? I hope they stick around because they are super cute, appropriate in all four seasons, and of course, much more comfortable than a heel, though elegant and fashionable as well.

i do
yeah, i would wear them with knee high socks, or just really colorful ones.
yup they are too cute not to wear in winter
Heck yes I do...I love my ballet flats girlfriend.
If it's too cold for you, then don't wear them unless you're going to be able to take it. Personally, everyone I know (and in my town) wear sandals throughout the winter, so I wouldn't think too much about ballet flats.
Yes!!! flats are an year-round accessory!
yes i love mine i wear almost everyday
I do.

I wear them with socks or stay barefoot. It usually doesn't get that cold, where I am, to where I can't wear them.
no especially if there is snow around you. then it just loooks retartded
Yes!! Ballet flats are so cute and comfortable! You can wear them all year round ~ in the summer, fall, spring, and even the winter!!! Where I live, the climate is pretty mild and sunny the whole year, so I am lucky I can wear that kinda thing. But if you live in like a place where it snows or rains a lot, please please please DO NOT wear ballet flats in the winter! Your feet will freeze! So, meduim-warm weather = good for ballet flats, extremely cold-rainy-snowy weather = very bad for ballet flats!!!

? Hope this helps! ?
Where I live it is way too cold for that! I would get frostbite! LOL! I stick to my warm and fuzzy Uggs in the winter :)
ofcourse but with soxs under it

if not try something like yoga
If that is really what you want to do, do it. I always wanted to dance, but never did until one day. I realized that it was something I wanted to do so much, embarrassment, my age, my excuse of a busy schedule, didn't matter. Its not easy, but nothing fulfilling ever is. I know that if you really want it you will do it, no advice needed, its just what you want to do. It doesn't matter how old you are if its what you really want, its only an obstacle if you see it as one. Good luck in whatever you choose.sry I have no idea about ballet classes in Jamaica
Dancefit Jamaica limited offers adult dancing lessons. I am not sure if I can post their email address here. but email me and I will give you there email address as well as a contact telephone number. you can see what they have to offer.
its never too late to start dacing!!! fair enough ballet is probs one of the hardest forms of dance and does require alot of hard work but im sure if your dedicated enough you will be fine. the most important thing is that your having fun!!

My daughter's ballet class teacher called me FACIST cause my daughter doesn't want to go to the class but I mamusicals opera theater

ignore it
1st off the teacher is not a good teacher. If she is calling you that, you need to tell her boss or stand up to her. She needs to mind her buisiness anyways.
lol, bad use of term, she might as well call you a commie. But the question is, if she doesn't wanna do it, why make her%26gt;??? she's not gonna be happy about it, why don't you just ask her what she wants to do???
well how old is your daughter? If she's old enough to make her own decisions, then don't force her. But if she's only like 5 or something then she may thank you in the long run
and?

maybe you are a little, why dont you let your daughter do what she wants?
What is the question? LOL.

Yeah, no matter what her opinion on your methods, it's not her place to call you that. It's a bad idea, too, to alienate children against their own parents. The three of you might want to talk it over, whether or not it's a good idea for your daughter to continue. 8 years old is not old enough to make decisions, but certrainly old enough to have her preferences and desires.
Your daughter is 8. You get to make all the decisions about her upbringing. Perhaps you need a new dance teacher; one that can make dancing fun for your daughter.

You should also do whatever you can to make the experience a fun one for her. No fun, she wont; but if it's fun, she will want to do it. Be creative. Also, for your daughter to think dancing is fun, it must be fun for YOU.
Two issues, one is the issue of the dance teacher who lacks manners. If she is going to talk to you that way, I can imagine why your daughter does not want to go. I personally would not want to spend another penny or another minute supporting a persom who would talk to me like that.

Second issue is the issue about sending your daughter to the class even though she did not want to continue. The folks who told you to let her do what she wants are probably kids themselves.

I am not any kind of expert but I am a high school teacher ahd I see what kids are lacking by the time they get to my class. Most of them are lacking commitment and follow through. If she signed up for a class that is designed to lads for a certain number of weeks then she should go until the class is finished and if dance is not her thing or this is not her favorite teacher then she should be free to choose another activity or sport.

It is great to give kids a chance to explore different sports and activities until they fine one they can be passionate about. I would recommend you have her explore some of these sports and activities during the next year or two and tell her that she choose one that she wants to stick with by the 6th or 7th grade.

Then she will have the middle school years to get good at her activity of choice by high school. Once in high school if she has an activity, she can get involved with it in high school. This will help her make friends, keep out of some trouble, gain her opportunity to earn scholarships, while she learns about commitment and follow through and practice etc.

She needs to have some choice of activity that she likes but she needs to a.) follow through with her commitment b.) try it long enough to know if she really likes it or not and c.) choose something to be involved with before high school.

You are not a facist for wanting your child to participate in something healthy and productive. That teacher was wrong and deserves to know that and if she has a boss her boss deserves to know too.
#1. dance teacher is out of line for saying that. you need to contact his/her superior.

#2. if your child is genuinely uninterested in this dance class, either find another one or find something else that she will enjoy. neither one of you should feel stressed or agitated about a supposed 'fun' activity....

If ive learned ballet what do i do to learn lyrical.?

i need details, alot of details

If ive learned ballet what do i do to learn lyrical.?greek theater

With a ballet background you have a great and solid foundation for many other types of dance, for lyrical dancing I would suggest taking classes at a local community or dance center. Even health clubs now offer dance classes these days, and the rates are often included in the regular monthly fees! In addition, I have noticed that sites like YouTube also have instructors and amateurs teaching various styles of dance with their own short instructional videos. They are pretty fun and very popular. Good luck/have fun! :-D

If ive learned ballet what do i do to learn lyrical.?performing arts show opera theater

Lyrical dancing is a combination of other dance forms. Like jazz, modern, ballet. Sometimes when you go to try out for a new broadway musical they prefer it if you have had lyrical as well as ballet. Ballet is great. Ballet is beautifull. But you will not always be able to be on point. Age 25 is really old for a Ballet dancer. There are exceptions of course, Dame Margot Fonteyn stayed to dance with Rudolf Nureyev.

By taking lyrical dance you insure a longer dance life. You will be able to dance in slippers or barefoot. And believe me when you are 25 you will be glad you learned lyrical.Don't stop taking ballet class though, you need that barr.
Personally, I think lyrical is a lot easier than ballet. Lyrical really is abotu emotion while ballet, althoguh beautiful, is very strict and has a lot of rules. As yoru probably know, lyrical came from the roots of ballet so it really is the same thing. The difference is emotion. Ballet is like, "Don't think about it, you do what youa re told to do while lyrical is more relaxed. But to the point. really the only thing I can think of is the spins and to get intot he song. Lyrical also has some floorwork weaved into it in more or less. Oh and of course, lyrical does not have so much of the foot positions as ballet does. It concentrates more on the emotion like I have said so many times before.
Learn jazz and don't bother with lyrical. Lyrical does not have a defined syllabus or style. If you're ever forced to lower yourself to perform lyrical pieces, you could easily pull it off with a background in ballet and jazz.

What brand of ballet flats are these?

I've been killing myself searching and trying to find out what brand these flats are. I've tried contacting the store, no luck, I think they may be the model's own... Key features of these flats are the shape of the toe (rounded, but a little squareish) and I like the way they rise up a little in the front... also, the tie in the front is done in what looks like a narrow leather cord. There is also no heel at all.

Closest is the Brass Plum (BP) Edie... not quite...

If you think you want to start dancing. I definitely recommend it. It's challenging and beautiful. You will also become much better at any other form of dance should you take it.

I also recommend reading a book called "The Dancer's Companion" by Eliza Minden.
It's boring a soul-less. Ballerinas are like little robots. Try looking into Jazz/Lyrical/Contemporary!!!
Ballet is the basis of all dancing. I personally love all types of dancing. I take tap, ballet, lyrical, jazz, modern/contemporary, character, and ceccheti. I have learned throughout my dancing that although my favorite is jazz and contemporary. You need ballet without it you have no foundation and you need a strong core in order to do anything. Ballet gives you this and so much more. If you want to do anything with dance you have to take ballet.
Ballet is a very graceful dance.you should try it.you will fall in love right away!!!i would write more but you'll be soo tired after it

Will Shake the Spear. Duh.
Shakespeare of course!
I know William Shakespeare wrote the book but sorry no idea who composed the ballet.
The original play was written by Shakespeare, but there have been a number of ballets inspired by the story over the years. The sites below actually go over them in great detail.

The Prokofiev version is widely regarded as the most famous, though Tchaikovsky wrote a version that includes the famous theme that you hear on TV to represent true love (amazing the classical music you unintentionally pick up from watching The Smurfs or other cartoon classics).

The last link is an audio search link if you want to hear some clips of various different versions.
There are two Romeo and Juliet ballets, one by Tchaikovsky and the other by Prokofiev. Prokofiev's has a fantastic piece called Dance of the Knights that is very dramatic.

Breif history of ballet dancing?oper

While the idea of dance exists throughout history, traditions of narrative dance evolved in China, India, Indonesia and Ancient Greece. Theatrical dance was well-established in the wider arena of ancient Greek theatre. When the Roman Empire conquered Greece, it assimilated the Greek art and culture, dance along with it.[1] However, while dance continued to be important throughout the Middle Ages, in spite of occasional suppression by the Church, ballet did not emerge until the late 1500s in Italy. Although Italy began the ballet tradition, it was the French that cemented it. Incorporating some aspects of Italian ballet, French ballet gained prominence in France and eventually international influence. To this day, the brunt of ballet vocabulary originates from French.

While France was instrumental in early ballet, other countries and cultures soon adopted the art form. The most notable of these was Russia, and Russian ballet has had great importance in its country and established a well-recognized tradition of ballet. In the last century, the United States also developed its own traditions, most notably with choreographer George Balanchine. Although interest in dance has expanded with time to include modern dance, jazz, flamenco and other forms, ballet is still performed and taught.

The etymology of the word "ballet" corresponds to the art form's development. The word ballet comes from French and was borrowed into English around the 17th century. The French word in turn has its origins in Italian balletto, a diminutive of ballo (dance). Ballet ultimately traces back to Latin ballere, meaning to dance.[2]

Ballet originated in the Renaissance court as an outgrowth of court pageantry in Italy,[3][4] Aristocratic weddings were lavish celebrations and court musicians and dancers collaborated to provide elaborate entertainment.[5]. Ballet was further shaped by the French ballet de cour, which consisted of social dances performed by the nobility in tandem with music, speech, verse, song, pageant, decor and costume.[6] When Catherine de Medici, an Italian aristocrat with an interest in the arts, married the French crown heir Henry II, she brought her enthusiasm for dance to France and provided financial support.

A ballet of the Renaissance would look nothing like a performance of Giselle or Swan Lake at the Bolshoi. Tutus, ballet slippers and pointe work was unheard of. The choreography was adapted from court dance steps. Performers dressed in fashions of the times. For women that meant formal gowns that covered their legs to the ankle.[7] Early ballet was participatory, with the audience joining the dance towards the end.

Can i learn ballet at home??

im 13... my ma wont let me take classes but i really have a passion for dancing and i really wanna learn...

im well fit so i dont think il have any problems...

any advice or suggestions?

Can i learn ballet at home??theater

You could probably learn the basics from instruction DVDs (have a look on Amazon.com, there's always some basic ballet ones around) but to get really sound technique and be certain you're doing it right you really ought to take proper lessons. Speak to your mum about it, find out the reason why she won't let you take lessons and see if you can find a way round it between you. If it's something you're really passionate about, TELL her that and see if you can work round it.

Can i learn ballet at home??london theatre opera theater

Mmmm. Idk if you can learn it at home. Unless someone who already knows it teaches you. Because you'll need the shoes, and probably a bar to stretch out on. I would ask your mom, tell her how important it is and how much you want to do it. Tell her you'll pitch in some extra help to show that you really want it. Dance is a great thing %26lt;3. Don't give up yet!
It would be difficult to learn ballet at home . You really do need a teacher and to attend a class is the best way , in a suitable hall or large room . To do it at home you would need to set up a room with a large mirror , a bar for exercises and a television , video/DVD and films of ballet instruction . I wonder what your mum's objections are ; maybe the cost , or maybe the time involved , taking you and fetching you in the evening . It is quite a bother for parents taking their children to activities of this kind . Talk to your mother seriously , ask her why she says no to ballet . You can get videos on how to do aerobics ; I expect there are ballet one too . if you could try to do it on your own at home , your mother might be persuaded .
Listen I have the same problem too but heres what you do you go on the Internet and find some things even videos on how to do such thing like the basics try http://www.expertvillage.com and youtube, but I'm sorry to say you can't really take ballet seriously without the proper facilities so I advise you to try your best to convince your mom and if that doesn't work then get a job earn your own money and then do it remember keep your head up and keep the passion if you have the passion don't let NOBODY! take that away from you,

Dance is life

Is there a particular reason why she won't let you? If its a financial reason, maybe a local YMCA can help! I'm pretty sure that their classes are all free.

If you're like me and just can't find enough time in your schedule, maybe you can drop something else that you don't enjoy as much. You can also dance at summer camp if you're free in the summer.

Do you have any dance experience? Previous dance instruction (especially in jazz) can help you a lot with ballet. Of course, they're minor differences between the two types of dance, but the basics are almost the same.

Im teaching a ballet class for 4 and 5 year old girls? got any ideas for me?

i need some games to play, stretches and exercises we should be doing and how to do them ,stuff I shud be teaching them , websites to go to,etc. anything that you think wud helpful to me AT ALL.thanks :)

Im teaching a ballet class for 4 and 5 year old girls? got any ideas for me?opera songs

i cant think of a website but here are some ideas:

1."good toes, bad toes"- sit on the floor in a circle with your legs stretched out in front of you and first of all tell them to point their toes ("good toes") and give tell them to clap for their "good toes" then flex their toes and tell them to wag their finger and go "not like that" because those are "bad toes" try to do this with some music.

2. "Mr Crocodile"- start of by saying something like "now we're going to tease mr crocodile", then tell them to strecth their legs out (like before) and reach up for the sky with their hands (who can reach highest?) and then to make sure "mr crocodile" doesn't eat their toes (when you say so) they snap their feet in and hug their knees to their chest then slowly stretch out again and repeat. On the last one when they are stetching out tell them to "wave goodbye to Mr crocodile".

3. "marching" put them in a line in one corner of the room and tell them to take turns marching to the other side, lifting their legs very high and swinging their arms.

4. "galloping like a pony" tell them to put their arms the way you would to be a rabbit but pretend its a pony and then demonstrate how to gallop around the room then get them to do it on their own in a circle.

5. "jumps"- tell them to get into rows and put their feet together and just jump up and down tell them to try and keep their feet together (just parrallel not any position) and jump as high as they can.

6. "points"- staying in the same lines tell then to point their toes "in front of their nose" and tap three times then repeat with the other foot, do this two or three times

7. "curtsy" show them how to do a curtsy, step one side then the other and bend with one leg behind, and then wave goodbye

I hope this helps!! :D

DONT do plieas or releves they are FAR to young to even do real dancing, especially if beginners

Im teaching a ballet class for 4 and 5 year old girls? got any ideas for me?secure browser opera theater

one tip is to play Simon says. you tell them, "Simon says do a pirouette." and they copy. but if you don't say Simon Say's and they copy their out. this turns learning into a game. also, remember that these girls are really young and that they get tired really easily. don't get frustrated if they take to many breaks or aren't listening to you.

hope it helps!
You will probably get all sorts of suggestions, links, etc. but something that is very important to know when evaluating them is that...

At the age of 4 and 5, a child can only mentally control one thing at a time. Thus an activity that would require doing something different with say both a hand and a foot, requires controlling two things (a hand and a foot) separately which most 4 and 5 year olds can't do.

You can see this in youth soccer. A child can kick the ball, dribble the ball with his foot. No problem. Controlling one thing. Now ask that child to look for someone to pass that ball to? The child will lose the ball, often even falling over it, because now they are doing two different things simultaneously.

This begins to change at about age 6 or 7. Now before I get trashed, I do understand that every child is different. There are 3 year olds that can play a piano piece with both hands. But the most common trait of the population is that at age 4 and 5, a child can only control one thing at a time. Recognizing this, lacking any other specific information about a child, can make the experience exceptionally enjoyable for them. Not recognizing this can lead to frustration and loss of interest.
have you ever tried that little excercise where you get them to sit on the floor and point their toes up ad down, getting them to say good toes(pointed) naughty toes(stuck up straight) i used to that, i forgotten techniqual terms for everything sorry, good luck
start out with some neck and shoulder streches then show them a couple moves and then at the end of class play a quick game i've been dancing sense i was 2 and i'm 9 so i know what i'm doing cause i was ballet when i was young
Teach them what you no.But start witth the basics. If they never learned it then start with releve' and plea and the meaning of them.Dont start with perotes'(if thats how you spell it.
I teach some classes at the age too! They are so much fun. I found a book and cd set called "Music %26amp; Movement in the Classroom" by Steven Traugh %26amp; Greg Scelsa

It has two cd's and a book with lyrics and instructions for many different types of creative movement activities. They are not 'ballet" but I have found some of the activities useful for warm-ups, teaching levels, high low, etc. There are role playing songs too that are perfect for this age developmentally (example: New Zoo Review asks children to act like each specific animal) My classes love this! Good Luck!

How popular is ballet?

"Popular" like "beauty" is in the eye of the beholder. I would guess you can say it's fairly popular. Even a small town like my hometown has ballet classes for little girls. People turn out to watch THE NUTCRACKER at Christmas.

It's not as popular as soccer around here. Tons of kids of both genders turn out to play in the local soccer leagues.

It's more popular than accordian lessons.

Royale Jump in Ballet??

Don't worry, they just take practice! It helps to practice at barre, where you can use your arms to lift yourself for longer, so you can get the feel of what your feet should do. Each time you do them at barre, use your arms a little less. Good luck, and just keep practicing!

Royale Jump in Ballet??opera mobile opera theater

Start by practicing them at the barre, then try them in the center. Remember, the key is to jump as high as you can by using a really deep plie. Hope this helps!

???????

Jazzfeet
It will just take some practice.

Just remember to stay centered and use a deep plie and then jump and beat your feet really fast.

After you do that for awhile it should start to come together :]
here's a tip our teacher gives us to help them look better.

When you first jump up open the legs slightly and then beat front back. This'll make the beat much cleaner and clearer.

Ideas for a ballet/dance studio at home?

My house is quite small and I don't want to spend too much money on it because I though I'd ask my dad to fix something up for me as a birthday present. Any ideas? Decorating, using space wisely, etc.?

Ideas for a ballet/dance studio at home?phantom of the opera

All you need is some laminate floring, a fairly wide mirror and if you want a bit more a barre! Thats all the flooring shouldnt cost to much or the mirror but barres are quiet exepenive!

oh and happy birthday!

Ideas for a ballet/dance studio at home?listen to opera opera theater

If you are already taking classea at a good studio, then you can practice at home. If you intend to teach yourself, then please reconsider. Ballet is such an intricate and difficult thing to learn even with a teacher present making sure you are doing everything right. If you teach yourself at home, you have no way of knowing if you're doing anything correctly, and you can hurt yourself if you do things wrong. For example, if you don't turn out correctly, you can permanently damage your knees.

So if you want a dance studio in your house just for extra practice, put mylar flooring down (less slippery than wood but won't add too much friction to turns) and put mirrors on one wall. Then put a barre on the wall opposite the mirror. This will take up a whole room, though, so if you want something you can put in your room. Maybe put a strip of mylar down, forget the mirror (unless you really want to be able to see yourself), and put a wall-mounted barre up.
It's up to you really. If you would really like a ballet studio then good for you! (i always wanted one but couldn't be able to get one at home, hehehe) Anyways, if i were to give an advice, use a BIG space. You don't wanna end up in a cast for hitting the wall, chair, etc. for lack of space. Good Luck and have fun with it!!! :D

Do you consider ballet a sport?

I think we're confusing "sport" and "athleticism". What most everyone is describing is athleticism and there is no doubt that ballet is extremely athletic. Arguably one of the most athletic pursuits possible for the human body. Case closed in that regard. But is it a "sport"?.

I think you have to examine the INTENTION of the activity to come to a conclusion. Is the intention of the ballet dancer to win? Not really... It is to communicate the design of the choreographer as well as their heart felt personal interpretation of a work of art. Is the intention of a pole vaulter to express grace or beauty? Not really... they intend to jump as high as possible. Does the ballet dancer sometimes compete to win a position or a role? Yes... but they do that via their competence as an artist, as a communicator. Is a 40 yard pass completion sometimes a thing of great beauty? Absolutely!, But is that the quarterbacks intention? No, he intends to score a touchdown and win the game.

So, maybe it is in exploring the purpose or intention of the activity that helps define it.

Do you consider ballet a sport?soap opera

yes dude

Do you consider ballet a sport?city opera opera theater

yes

it takes tremendous amount of effort and practice
I think anything that uses your body as an instrument and you have to have high physical strength is a sport.
no it is an art, there is no competitive ballet that i know of. a sport is a contest
it is an artist exercise
Yeah!!! You have to practice, work hard and have some talent!!! Just like any other sport!!!
Undoubtedly! Stand in point shoes for 15 minutes, then you'll believe that it most definitely is a sport and requires more muscle strength than ANY contact sport!
Dancing is a physical activity, but in my opinion unless it is done in competition it is not a sport.
ofcourse!

its very strentuous and takes a lot of muscles

and 110% effort and heart

it's really hard work

much more than other types of dance
Yes ballet takes a whole lot of self discipline and practice to get really good at it. It is a sport but also a form of art like gymnastics.
yes most definatly. you work yourself as mush as you do in football or baseball so why shouldn't it be?
All types of dance are sports. Ballet, Hip-Hop, Jazz, tap, etc. I take ballet, and it definitly is a workout. You have tos tretch every muscle in your body. You have to work on building up your leg muscles, that way you can spin better and faster, and have a stronger plat form, when doing pk turns, channaie turns, and leaps. Some excersises we do to build our leg muscles are, beats around your legs either hon de hor(inside) or on the outside. This is how it works you stand in first position with one leg out to the side of your knee and circle it around your knee back and forth. Do this a hundred times you'll feel the burn. People get the idea that we just hold our arms gracefully and prance around. That is a FALSE assumption.
Ballet is an art. It is at a much higher level than sports like basketball or football because we put a lot of ourselves into it and need to be really expressive and emotional when we dance. We're performers, not goal-scorers or field goal-makers. I'm not putting dancers above other athletes, but we do need something more than they need.
Hell yeaaa!

Ballet is movement, ballet is more than a sport, ballet is an art form. Any one who says otherwise can face my rath, ( and let me say it is pretty when I kick your butt ballet-style)

YES!
yea- it's really difficult (it took me 12 years to be where I am) and it's physically demanding
I think it was intended to be a form of dance. But for me to try to ballet would be like playing one man tackle football.
i see your logic but i still think ist more of an art thena sport

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KtiKpqgUL...
It is much more than a sport. (I've done sports too formany years and I'm not saying it's easy.) Dance is an art. If you dance a routine with perfect technique but no expression then yeah maybe it's a sport. But then what is the point of having good technique if you don't use it to express anything. Competition or not, the point of sport is to be faster and stronger but the point of dance is to show the beauty and express some thoughts or emotions through the great capabilities of your body that you achieve with training.
Yes. But in a way it is its own category of sport.

Dancing is a lot harder than it looks and it really pisses me off then football players and other athletes say "dancing isn't a sport and its for sissy's"

All i want to say to them try standing on pointe shoes with all your weight on two or three toes. Try stretching till it hurts or dancing so hard you almost pass out.
of course! it takes skill, practice, time, strength, and flexibility. just because it isnt a contact sport doesnt mean it isnt a sport....
I consider all types of dance a sport..so yes.

What fabrics are ballet tights made of?

fancy fancy tights are made of silk though

What fabrics are ballet tights made of?opera mini

I take beginner ballet classes for which I have to wear black tights. Some friends find this funny.Wh

I would hazard a guess to say its not the fact that the color of the tights is black but because your wearing tights and jumping around that they find funny - maybe that your starting ballet now instead of the usual young age - who knows but if you enjoy it forget it and just have fun - my daughter is doing first year ballet and they wear skin coloured tights and as they get older (I think about level 3 or 4) they start doing other dance styles and are required to wear black tights

I take beginner ballet classes for which I have to wear black tights. Some friends find this funny. Why?extension

Well, I used to be a ballet dancer and some of the things you have to wear and things people think you have to wear can be pretty dam funny but I wouldnt take it too serious. Im now a river dancer and things are pretty similer lol but as long as your enjoying it go for it. Good luck with your ballet : ) x

tights r pretty gay man... r u?

thats whats funny.
okay, this could mean that to other people that have seen you dress regularly ...and so the thought of your legs in tights might be a funnything to see. or

this could be that people think your legs look funny already so if you were to put them in tights even i would giggle.

or it could just be that they dont know how to react to that so they laugh. you cant expect everyone to have the same reaction or to encourage you in things YOU like. You like it you do it who cares realy what others think? give it 100 % and enjoy yourself and be proud of yourself that you are trying something out.
well, in most professional schools and traditionaly throughout history dancers wear pink tights for ballet class. Thats the usual uniform. They allow for teachers (and yourself) to see muscle tone or how the muscles are working in your legs.

And as for your friends mabey they are just immature or insecure. After all, it takes guts to do ballet and wear tights.
keep on dancing there is nothing sexier then a guy who can dance. and as for you frieds dont listen to them.
it isnt somethingg to laugh about, but i imagine it is because usually in ballet we wear pink/white tights because it is easier to see your legs in.
Well maybe because most tights are well pink, baby pink or white(rarely black). Just carry yourself with confidence and you'll be ahright! :)

When I wear ballet flats, the back of ankle always hurts!!! what can i do?

i think it's called a blister or something, but the shoe always rubs on the back of my ankle, and it really hurts!! i love wearing cute shoes and will pay the price to wear them.

however, i'm getting really sick of it.

i tried bandaids and they always get off quickly because it rubs a lot.

When I wear ballet flats, the back of ankle always hurts!!! what can i do?secure browser

Dr sholes makes little crescent looking things that you put on the shoe and it wont rub anymore they should be near the foot aisle!!! They are also cheap so its ok if they come off in a month or two!

When I wear ballet flats, the back of ankle always hurts!!! what can i do?home theater opera theater

put maxi pads in the back of your shoe.
get new ones
I can't wear em' either. I'm not going to scar up my feet to wear them though. I'll stick with flip flops.
get the really sticky band-aids

because thats the only thing that really works...
ahh happens to me too.

I wear the fabric bandaids, two one each heel, the fabric ones stay on longer.

Or, you could take some medical tape (the stuff that you use to wrap gause) and put some tissues on your heels.
haha, "A blister or something."

Yeah, I guess in the aftermath you could call it a blister.

Try getting a bigger size.

I have this problem sometimes too, and thats what I do. Or if they wont fit anymore, just put soft cushioning there. (Some shoe stores sell this.)

If you think your going to go to the store in a few days, wear bandaids and socks untill you actually go out and purchase this merchandise.

I know the feeling -- it KILLS!

But this stuff is sure to help!

Good luck!
I know this sounds weird, but put duct tape where it rubs.

They have brown and white duct tape, so if anyone sees it just looks like a bandaid.

Plus-- it stays on, and your pants usally cover the back of your shoes.
find the right pair. i have a cute pair of bcbg black ballet flats that hurt like hell to wear then i have alllll my other flats taht i dont even notice are on my feet. just search around for the right size and brand. you'll find a comfy pair. i own like 10 flats and only 2 hurt. good luck!!! :]]]
probably you havent broken into them yet.

what i do it put like many layers of bandaid on for like the first few days but instead of having them right ontop of each other, have one going up and one going side ways.

or you could wear athletic wraps and where your shoes aroudn your house so you could break into them if tats the reason.

i hope this helps
Well, you will have to break in the shoes so they can mold into your foot's shape before they actually feel okay. so get bandage (like, cloth ones) and wrap it around ur ankles
Stop wearing them.

Should I take ballet or hip hop classes?

I really like both so much and I cant decide between the two. So I decided to come on here, whichever one gets the most vote is the one I'll pick thanks guys =}

Should I take ballet or hip hop classes?opera singer

Well i think you should do ballet

i done it for 8 years

it gives you really good muscle control that you dont really learn in any other form of danceing

and even if you dont like it it will be worth it because if you end up doing hip hop later on it will seriously help

but just a warning ballet is VERY hard you just have to stick with it

Should I take ballet or hip hop classes?amc theater opera theater

hip hop

ballet if you like jazz
Ballet
I would prefer the hip hop classes
Take Salsa dancing classes.
Hip hop :-)
Hip hop
try both
hip hop!!! its so much more entertaining(no offense to ballet)
i love ballet so that is what i would take, and its what i vote for!
ballet, it gives u grace, poise and elegance
Hip hop seems much more exciting and beneficial as far as exercise
hip hop sounds more fun.

?Melli_Boo?
It depends on what you want and where you want to take it in the future. If you are looking to get in shape, go "clubbing" and things like that, then hip-hop is your answer.

If you are looking to learn grace, balance, strength, focus, get in shape, and learn a refined classical skill, then ballet is your answer.

If I were a woman making this choice, I would chose ballet. Hip-hop is little more than a more detailed/choreographed aerobics class...in my opinion.
ballet - i think if you wanted to be a professional dancer it would give you a good starting place, not only for strength, technique, agility, but for the discipline .. even if you're taking the classes more for fun - i'd go with whichever one gives you the most joy - because if you don't really feel it, it's going to be hard to stick with it on a bad day ...either way - choose the one that 'makes your heart sing' :)
Hip Hop classes cause you gonna actually make a career of it if you are that good.
Hip Hop!!!i lov it 4ever!!!

Have a gr8 day~
I know some ballet moves, so Id definitely LOVE to take a ballet class in the future. BALLET all the way lol
Ballet. I use to take it when I was little and dropped out and you have NO idea how much I regret that. It's really good. You should take it. Hip hop is so cliche and nothing special. So many people take hip hop class.

Flip Flops or Ballet shoes????

I'll have to say ballet shoes because just like flip flops there comfortable. Though if you want to be cute, calm, and comfortable 3 in 1 go with the ballet shoes. If you want to be comfortable and calm go with the flip flops 2 in 1. But it really doesn't matter its how you work your style.

Flip Flops or Ballet shoes????met opera

it depnds what the rest of your outfit is

Flip Flops or Ballet shoes????movie theatre opera theater

or ballet flats I guess.
ballet shoes
Flip Flopss
Ballet shoes make your feet sweaty and stinky, and it brings to mind Amy Winehouse's filthy feet. FLIP FLOPS ALL THE WAY BABY! I cannot wait for a few more weeks so it'll be warm enough to wear my big variety (and I mean big - I have size 11 feet!), of pretty flip flops!
It depends where you are planning on wearing them... flip flops are more comfortable but ballet flats are dressier. Also, flip flops are better to wear in warm weather... ballet flats make your feet sweat.. alot lol
ballet shoes.
I think you should mainly stick to wearing flip flops on the beach, flats are best for comfyness though, because flip flops are SO flat, theyre not actually that good for your feet when youre walking as they dont cushion you at all.

:)
Ballet shoes are getting kinda out right now,. unless they are really cool like from traffic but i would say mainly go w/ the flip flops!
Flip flops in the summer, or just no shoes at all. And in the winter, ballet shoes. As for fall and spring, whatever.
Well what's the question? Is it what they are, the differences, where you can get some, or if you should wear them? Be more specific hun
Ballet shoes are best to walk in and do everything..flip flops are not goood
Ballet shoes most definitely. Flip flops are always hitting your foot every time you walk.
I can't decide!!I love them!!!
Between the two I would say ballet flats since I can't stand flip flops.
flip flops are more comfortable and have a more chillaxed style... flats can be really uncomfortable at times and they can be a little more classy.
Flip flops are going out of style! Only teen wannabes and frumpy middle age soccer moms who no longer care are still wearing them. Try a pair of skimmers.

Which is harder? Ballet or competitive swimming?

To me, swimming is harder BY FAR! What do you think??

Which is harder? Ballet or competitive swimming?lyric opera

I'm sure ballet can be hard at times too. Howver, I find swimming soooooooo much harder. It uses every muscle in your body, you have to hold your breath, and it is in the water! Plus, getting fast times can be very hard.

Which is harder? Ballet or competitive swimming?imax theater opera theater

swimming is sooo hard-mentally and physically. and it uses like every muscle. you sweat so much, but people cant tell because your wet...its insane!
After doing both competitive swimming and ballet I think that swimming is much harder, it challenges you physically and mentally everyday.
Swimming!!!
swimming is way harder. I swim competitivly year round and I know that my muscles always ache way more after a tough swim than when I do ballet

Barrel Turn in ballet?

Get rid of your fear to lean sideways and practice. You don't need a video. You will love them and yourself so much more if you cross the bridge alone. Your momentum will come from you shoulders/back and your plie preparation. You can figure it out. Go in the studio alone and work on it, ask your teacher to give you some assistance in person. NO VIDEOS!!!!!

It seems like you have a fear...If this is so, practice with a mat or something.

First of all, you are not too old. You are never too old to do anything. You can teach an old dog new tricks-not saying that your an old dog but I had to learn how to walk again when I was older than you and then I took Martial arts as my pt. So, go for it! And, Good Luck!

p.s. Ballet is the hardest work out that you will ever get- it is right up there with martial arts.
Why not
yes! anyone can learn ballet! My mother takes it! (she's 40!)

i started ballet really young and its really nice

anyone can do it anytime

If you find it spam just forgive me.

Your question just reminded me a phenomenon which happened with my father, who is not with us.

My father was from very poor bramhin family and he had an affection with Sitar from his childhood. But my grandfather had not enough money to provide him a Sitar. When my father got his first employment he bought a Sitar for himself and went to a renowned Pandit (not taking his name) with that Sitar and asked him whether he can learn Sitar at that age of 25.

Panditji smiled and replied, "Why not? I am seeing that you are already with a Sitar in your hand. It indicates that you have an interest in it. Go ahead and you can learn it, but always remember how will you perform will depend upon the time you will devote and also with your dedication."

My father many time told me that story. I now miss my father, but your question seemed to be similar of my fathers question, and I just shared his experience with you.

Hope you will get your answer.
I STARTED LEARNING BALLET AT 19 SO I THINK YOULL BE FINE. BALLET (DEPENDING ON WHERE YOU GO) CAN BE QUITE DICIPLINED. IF YOU CAN, TRY TO IMPROVE YOUR FLEXIBILITY BEFORE YOU GO TO A CLASS BECAUSE OTHERWISE IT WILL HOLD YOU BACK. HONESTLY BALLET IS SOMETHING YOU MUST FEEL STRONGLY ABOUT IN ORDER TO DO WELL. IT DOESN'T LOOK LIKE MUCH BUT IT IS A LOT TO TAKE IN FROM THE WAY YOU HOLD YOU HANDS AND HEAD, TO YOUR BACK YOUR BUTT, YOUR LEGS AND FEET (FEET ARE THE HARDEST). IF YOU ARE GOING TO TRY IT GIVE YOURSELF AT LEAST 2 MONTHS TO GET YOUR MOJO.
sure yes! no pain no gain. you can always try other genres of dances, like contemporary, jazz.. etc. goodluck! ^_^
Anyone can learn ballet at any age. At this stage, it would be nearly impossible to become a pro ballet dancer (although I know of late-starters who studied very intensely and became pro in other genres). The hardest part right now may be finding a class that's geared toward older beginners. Many dance studios offer only more advanced classes for their teens (who have probably been taking dance for a while). If you can find an teen/adult beginner class in your area that would be best, but you may find there are few people your own age (if that matters to you). If you are going to be headed to college or have a community college nearby, that can be a great place to start dance classes because there are often beginners in their introductory level classes.

As others have mentioned, flexibility is a plus in any dance class. And, being a late starter, you may find some things difficult. Ballet requires a good deal of strength as well as flexibility, but a good beginner level class with help you to develop these things as you go. Just really try to apply any corrections the teacher gives you and ask questions. Good luck!
Yes, you can learn but don't expect to make a career out of it. It takes years if dedication and practice. I'm a 16 year student and i am 19 years old and i am still learning so much. Also to make it in the reall ballet world you must not only have the credentials above but be really skinny, lots of money, and the God given natural talent.
Never too late to try it!

Good luck....

Go for it!
You can start at your age, but it will be a bit harder. The good thing about starting late, though, is that you'll learn pretty fast. BUt also, since you're older, you will have to work harder for flexibility. Good Luck!
You can learn...but don't plan on being a professional because by the time you perfect it your body will be too old.

Its sad, but true.
I'm a professional dancer, I support my own living by dancing, and I started dancing at 20.

TWENTY!

And I'm just a little below the people who've been dancing their whole life.

Yes, it is very well possible. But I'm not gonna be nice to you.

Attend classes everyday. At least 10 hours a week.

Stretch for 30 minutes a day to improve flexibility. Outside the classes.

Practice your balance and pirouettes 30 minutes a day. Outside the classes.

Do a leg split while you watch the TV.

Brush ur teeth on the tip of your toe.

Walk on point, whether you're on the streets, malls, whatever.

Now are you ready to take that all? If you are, go.

Should i start ballet at age 19?

i already take taekwondo and being flexible shouldn't be a problem. plus i always liked wearing tights so i might as well do something that involves it. what do you think?

Should i start ballet at age 19?opera mobile

Well do you like ballet and tights? Yes you do. You will never be to old to start but start now if it is somthing you would love to do go for it you are very flexible so go ahead! I want to go with gymnastics i am very flexible too. You i love flips and i can do the splits easy. So i am going to join gymnastics i really want it so i will do it i going to start because it is good exersise. For ballet i did that for 2 years (age 8 and 9) Then i got bored of it so i gave up and start focusing on school work and now i am ready for anything in my way! You can do whatever you want to do so go ahead and get going on it i know you can and maybe you will be pro soon good luck and remember you can do anything anytime you want to. Now talking about ballet what are you planning to do flexibility is great you have taekwondo already you are going to be very flexible so go and if you really like tights and leggings then go because ballet is perfect for you! If you really want it go for it and don't be scared of what others will say about you if they make fun o you they are jerks! I belive in you all the way! Goodluck?

the younger the better
It's never too late.
I'd say there's a different motivation, but chase your dreams, and chase 'em hard.
There's no reason not to study it for your own pleasure - there are beginner's classes for adults all over the place. It's too late for you to study it as a career though, I'm afraid.
Well it's never too late for anything!
Well, first change your name to Nancy, then buy a pink skirt. After that, you could get free lessons at:
If you want to you should, you can always pull out if you find you dislike it...
heelll yeah man. maybe u should start cross dressing too.
It just depends on why you want to do ballet. If it's just for a hobby then absolutely! All dancing helps with flexibility, coordination, grace, etc. Plus it's great exercise. I wouldn't keep your hopes too high about making a career out of it though :)
ballet needs your bodie's softness. so you must try hard .as sooner you start,it will help you better.i started it at 6,7 in our school but when i came to iran! everything finished...bad chanse of me!
if your soul is crying for ballet then do it! It can be a great experience. I say if you want to do it do it!!!
If you want too but i wouldnt recommend it if ur looking for a career because you have to be training your muscles from a very young age! but as a hobbie yes go for it!
yes!

ballet is lots of fun. it's never too late to learn, i only started when i was 14 and when i tell people i do ballet they are realy amazed but impressed. i wouldn't give it up for anything and encourage everyone to give it a go.
It's never too late to start ballet! Go ahead!
ya why not
why not?

what have you got to lose?

Yes! You'll have fun but I doubt you will be able to do it professionally.
Well if your already flexible you shouldn't have a problem as long as you pick things up easily and take on what the teacher has said : ] good luck !

um those shoes look uncomfy, because of the hard heel. almost all shoes are uncomfy, you need to break into them. I've seen people wearing these shoes and they look comfortable to me. if it isn't a hassle go to the store to try them! (:

Do you think Ballet is a sport and why?

Of course it is! It is like anything else that you train hours every week for and it is very demanding. Pointe work especially. Get a non dancer to do pointework for about an hour and they will soon discover that ballet is indeed a sport.

Do you think Ballet is a sport and why?home theater

Yes, because it is a physically strenuous and requires a lot of practice

Do you think Ballet is a sport and why?comedy club opera theater

No, I think it is an art form because it is about self-expression not scoring points. Just because you have to practice a lot and stretch before you do it doesn't make it a sport.
Of course it is a sport if it makes you fit and healthy then i would class it as a sport...

Why it call ballet?

ballet

1667, from Fr. ballette from It. balletto, dim. of ballo "a dance" (see ball (2)).

ball (2)

"dancing party," 1632, from O.Fr. baller "to dance," from L.L. ballare "to dance," from Gk. ballizein "to dance, jump about," also "to throw," from PIE base *gwel- "to drip, spring forth, throw" (cf. Skt. balbaliti "whirls, twirls," Gk. ballizo "dance," O.E. plega "play"). Hence, "very enjoyable time" (1945, Amer.Eng. slang). Ballroom dancing first attested 1894.
